Gurushabd Khalsa Stories

In 1 sentence, what was your first impression of Kundalini Yoga?

Thought I got hit by a truck.

If aliens landed on earth tomorrow and offered to take you home with them, would you go?

And leave it all behind? No.

Tell us your love story with Kundalini Yoga.

Over 20 years ago, I happened upon a group filing in to a room at the local YMCA. When I asked where they were headed, the reply was “Yoga”. I had dabbled with some Hatha Yoga years earlier and decided to join in. Ninety minutes later, after twisting, huffing, puffing, sweating, meditating, chanting and divinely relaxing – I picked my quivering body (and soul) off the mat and declared “When can we do – whatever that was – again?” I’ve been doing “that”, again and again, ever since. The practice, and now the teaching of Kundalini Yoga (since 2005), is one of the principal defining components of my life and being. I sometimes reflect back to that day I found Kundalini Yoga (or did it find me?) and wonder where or what I’d be today had I not encountered and joined those Yogis at that exact moment in time? At a crossroads of destiny… in a hallway at the West End Y.

What is it about teaching that lights you up?

What certainly delights me is having the privilege to assist and witness people make “the connection” through the teachings. The palpable connection to Self, Soul and Spirit – within oneself, and within it All.
