Exploring Expressions of Love, Longing, and Belonging
Join Shivalee Paliwal and Demetria Jackson in a monthly Kundalini Yoga gathering for self-identified black, brown, indigenous and people of colour.
This month, we’ll take a dive and swim deeply in expressions of love, longing and belonging using literature from our lineages to guide our conversation and activate opportunities for self and communal healing, deep connection and ancestral wisdom.
We’ll breathe together, move together, meditate together and create space where we can be vulnerable with each other. The magic of this class is created by the energy of each person who enters it.
Kundalini Yoga for Brown Bodies is a queer & trans positive space.
All genders, expressions, sizes and levels welcome.

About the Teachers
Shivalee Paliwal spent most of her years as a classic type A personality – always on the go, filled with a sense of urgency, and looking for the next thing to tackle. Her lifestyle lacked balance and consequently impacted her health and well-being. Being of Indian descent and having been exposed to yoga growing up, she had a natural affinity to the practice and philosophy. Shivalee describes yoga as her ‘self-healing toolbox’ which allows her to continue to keep up and engage fully with life’s excitement and challenges while also building a strong, healthy, and balanced self.
Shivalee holds her certification to teach Kundalini Yoga, has over 10 years of experience teaching classical and contemporary dance, holds an MBA from the Schulich School of Business, is an honours mathematics major, a Registered Holistic Nutritionist, and is trained and experienced in adult education.
Demetria Jackson is a body empowerment coach and plus-sized, trauma sensitive, Kundalini Yoga instructor, who is passionate about creating and holding space for people who are learning how to come home to, and make peace with, their body. In all of her classes, Demetria creates a grounding, consent-based and shame-free atmosphere that gives you permission to explore your body at whatever depth feels safe for you. Frequently working with beginners, clients in larger bodies and clients with a variety of bodily constraints and disabilities, Demetria loves to show others how to use props and modifications to support their practice and work with their unique body, rather than against it.
Committed to breaking down the barriers to accessing yoga, Demetria regularly offers free/by donation classes, yoga in youth shelters and works with Freeing the Human Spirit and the John Howard Society to share this transformative practice with men in Toronto Detention Centres.
Demetria is known for her high-vibe playlists and soulful classes that open the heart centre and challenge the body and the mind giving her students the opportunity to release blocks, heal themselves and experience radical transformation. To learn more, visit www.demetriajackson.com.
