A Deep Introduction to
Mindfulness Meditation

with Har-Prakash Khalsa

Gurushabd Khalsa Expired Workshops

Join us for a deep introduction to mindfulness meditation, taught over two weekends at Lotus Yoga Centre.

This introductory course is a mix of teaching, guided meditation, mindful journaling, Q&A discussion and interactive exercises with an expert in mindfulness meditation. Har-Prakash Khalsa has over 30 years of experience in meditation and has been teaching mindfulness meditation for 15 years. Participants will be supported in home practice with eight one-hour group conference calls between weekends.

This course is for you if you want to:

  • learn deep, foundational mindfulness skills you can use for life
  • optimise your brain to reduce suffering and elevate your fulfillment
  • reduce your “monkey mind” and experience the present moment more
  • learn how to live beyond your stories
  • learn how mindfulness is used with pain, anxiety and various other challenges
  • learn how to track your sensory experience to optimise behaviour and develop an ‘owner’s manual’ to work with your body and mind
  • establish a quality mindfulness meditation practice or deepen and improve an existing one
  • have clear, secular instruction based on scientifically-proven methods
  • have customized instruction from an expert to optimise your efforts
  • use weekly live support to clarify concepts, methods and practice between weekends and for four additional weeks after the course
  • have access to online class video (great for visual learners) and guided audio meditations between weekends and after the course

The course includes:

  • 2 weekends at Lotus Yoga Centre to deeply introduce you to mindfulness meditation (18 hours)
  • 100 page introductory manual
  • audio meditations for home practice
  • videos of material from each weekend for review
  • homework and self-assessment checklists to keep you on track
  • 8 1-hour conference calls with Har-Prakash to assist you in integrating and optimizing your mindfulness practice (1 call per week for 8 weeks)

Space is limited, pre-registration is required.

Please bring a cushion to make your sitting more comfortable and a pen and paper for journalling.

This course is the first of five modules offered by Har-Prakash. If there is enough interest, we will continue to offer the next four modules at Lotus Yoga Centre, expanding from mindful awareness to mindful living, mindful loving, and finally to integrating enlightenment and the jewel of mindfulness. The whole course empowers participants to integrate a mindfulness that is comprehensive, wholistic, fulfilling, purposeful and practical. Participants will benefit immensely by learning the building blocks of mindfulness in this first module.

Testimonials

“I loved Har-Prakash’s Introduction to Mindfulness course! I started using the the techniques the same weekend I was learning them to help manage stress and anxiety and improve my communication, ie. Coping with ongoing stressors, quickly resolving an argument and managing the random bouts of anxiety I occasionally experience. I felt respected and encouraged in deepening my internal experience, building on my existing stress management and communication skill-set, and improving my productivity. Har-Prakash is a great teacher and resource!”
– Greg Stafford, Mental Health Counsellor

“Har-Prakash’s enthusiasm and desire to share the benefits of mindfulness practice with students comes through and makes for a fantastic learning experience. He creates a safe space where we were able to share some pretty personal stuff, ask lots of questions until we got it, and be goofy together. The exercises were thoughtfully designed, creative and were ordered in a way so that we were discovering the lessons through Har-Prakash’s coaching rather than just being told what to learn – a much better, long-lasting way to learn!”
– Lauryn Drainie, Campainer

“Once the course started I never stopped learning. I enjoyed every aspect of Har-Prakash’s teaching from his honesty and humour to his passion and generosity in sharing the teachings and depth of his mindfulness experience. I learned more this weekend about myself (and humans) than a whole undergrad degree in psychology and months of counselling. Har-Prakash created a safe and welcoming space and I felt supported and safe when pushing my own comfort zones. I am motivated to re-enforce and deepen what I learned through the online course videos and hope to learn more from Har-Prakash in the future. I am extremely excited to share what I learned with others and to bring mindfulness into my daily life to help improve it. This course is phenomenal!”
– Caileigh McKnight, University Student

“The ‘take away’ for me has been incredible. Learning about myself, my behavioural patterns, reactions and so on is extremely empowering. There is a sense of achievement from the self growth. I just love the concepts and am growing in my skill set of meditation. It truly has been a life changing course for me. Har-Prakash, we are most fortunate to have you in our community.”
– Michelle Legge, Public Relations Specialist

About the Teacher

Har-Prakash Khalsa started his meditation training in 1984, at the age of 24, at a Korean Chogye Zen temple (with Samu Sunim) in Toronto. Further in-person training, study and practice includes Kundalini Yoga (Yogi Bhajan), Vipassana (Goenka), the Mahasi Sayadaw Burmese Noting method (Philip Starkman), the Jhanas (Leigh Brasington), Rinzai Zen (Sasaki Roshi), Hakomi (Dyrian Benz) and Native American Inipi Ceremonies (Vern Harper, amoung others). He has participated in several neuroscience studies, including as an adept meditator in the 2012 Harvard Mindfulness study designed by David Vago and Shinzen Young as part of the Mapping the Meditative Mind project. Har-Prakash identifies as polyspiritual and takes inspiration and wisdom from many spiritual traditions.

Since the year 2000 Har-Prakash has trained intensively in an evolving secular mindfulness system developed by Shinzen Young. Shinzen is a wonderful, brilliant, polymath scholar and masterful mindfulness teacher who has combined the best of what is common in the contemplative traditions into science-friendly teachings, tables and formulations. In his course, A Deep Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation, Har-Prakash shares what he has learned from Shinzen – a system of meditation that includes many options at any given point between the surface and the source of consciousness.

Har-Prakash is currently developing a comprehensive online mindfulness training program and workbook. Har-Prakash is also a Kundalini Yoga Teacher Trainer and artist. He is based in Owen Sound, Ontario.
