About Kundalini Yoga

Kundalini yoga is an all-encompassing practice that directly effects one’s body, mind, spirit and total energy. It is a very practical style of yoga designed for the active person.

Specifically, it is designed to work on the entire nervous and glandular systems in the body, thereby slowing down the aging process and stimulating overall health and vitality. The word “Kundalini” simply means awareness; it is the greatness of which you are capable. In the yogic tradition, Kundalini energy is portrayed as a coiled serpent lying dormant at the base of the spine. To raise the Kundalini means to awaken and enliven this creative energy. It is a powerful tool for increasing mental clarity, creativity, strength, flexibility, stamina and balance.

In yoga, breath is called “Prana” or life force and is believed to have special healing, transformational and spiritual qualities. Pranayam (breath control) is a fundamental tool for the Kundalini yoga student. Mastery of the breath is a foundation for the ability to open the range of your emotions, to control your moods, promote health and develop concentration. If you learn to regulate it with reverence and precision, you will always have resources and spirit at your command.

“Happiness is your birthright”

Yogi Bhajan

The science of “mantra” or sound is considered very transformative for the yoga practitioner. It is based on the knowledge that sound is a form of energy having structure, power and a definite, predictable effect on the human psyche. Focused repetition of sound creates “psychic heat” and a vibration of the central nervous system causing a connection to the innermost self.

Yoga is non-competitive, yet one can challenge oneself beyond personal perceived limitations. Limitations are challenged not only physically but also emotionally and mentally. This can be attained through awareness.
