The Power in Uniting the Mind and Body

“In the stormy ocean of life, take refuge in yourself.”
Zen Buddhist Master, Thich Nhat Hanh

Life is challenging. Life is unpredictable. Life is impermanent. And sometimes we suffer. But…

…there are specific practices that will bring happiness, ease and joy into your life. Yoga and meditation have the power to transform your conditioned way of thinking and open you up to your greatest potential.

Managing Difficulties Through Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness

Here at Lotus Yoga Centre, we teach the sacred practice of Kundalini yoga (as taught by Yogi Bhajan) and meditation with an emphasis on the Buddhist principles of mindfulness, concentration and insight (in the zen tradition).

Yoga is designed to work on the entire nervous and glandular systems in the body, thereby slowing down the aging process and stimulating overall health and vitality. The word “Kundalini” simply means awareness – the greatness of which you are capable. Kundalini energy is portrayed as a coiled serpent lying dormant at the base of the spine. To raise the Kundalini means to awaken and enliven this creative energy. It is a powerful tool for increasing intuition, mental clarity, creativity, strength, flexibility, and happiness.

A Unique Approach to Practicing Yoga

As you move your body through postures, breath techniques and meditations, you will also explore the Buddhist principles of mindfulness, concentration and insight. Practicing yoga with mindfulness will give you a deep experience of oneness and unity. When we understand that we are not ‘separate’ or ‘alone’ we feel secure. Security reduces fear – you become a courageous spiritual warrior capable of lifting yourself up – out of depression, anxiety, mood swings, anger and sadness.

The Power in Your Breath

You will move your body in LYC yoga classes, but you will also open your mind to the power inherent in your breath. This is the key to wisdom. Your breath is your life force and it has special healing, transformational and spiritual qualities. Pranayam (breath mastery) is a fundamental tool to realize greater health, mental well-being, wisdom and power. If you give reverence to your breath – your very life source – you will always have resources and spirit at your command.

The Power in Your Voice

A typical class at LYC also includes chanting. The science of “mantra” or sound is considered very transformative. Sound is a form of energy having structure, power and a definite, predictable effect on the human psyche. To have a real and deep connection with your the innermost self, and burn away mistakes and negative karma from your past,  is the gift of chanting sacred mantras.
