Guidelines
When attending classes at Lotus Yoga Centre, please observe the following guidelines to ensure a pleasant, rewarding experience for yourself and the other participants.

- For the comfort of all participants, please refrain from wearing perfume in class. Please turn off all cell phones and pagers before entering the studio.
- Yoga is best practiced on an empty stomach. It is recommended that you not eat 2-3 hours before class. Inform the teacher prior to class of any serious existing health conditions, back, neck, or joint injuries, recent surgery, high blood pressure or pregnancy.
- For women, when menstruating, it is advised to refrain from practicing “breath of fire”, “root lock” (squeezing pelvic floor muscles) and inverted postures. Menstruation is considered “apana” (the body is eliminating; downward flow) whereas the above techniques encourage upward flow of energy.
- Arrive 5 minutes early to allow yourself time to sign-in and get ready for class. Wear comfortable lightweight clothing (natural fibres is recommended).

Kundalini Yoga with Sound (all levels)
This class features short and challenging Kundalini Yoga sets which prepare students for a deep and powerful experience with the Yoga of Sound. Chants are drawn from the Yogi Bhajan tradition as well as from Sanskrit Vedic, Tantric, and devotional Bhakti sources. No need to worry about being able to ” sing”…. chanting is about vibrating, not singing!
“No matter how exciting our lives may be…something is missing if we don’t touch the deepest parts of ourselves. We thus feel compelled to move inward, into the core of our being, to discover the true nature of our soul in the rapidly changing landscape of our thoughts and emotions. Balancing these inward and outward impulses seems to call for a sort of guerrilla spirituality~~ something we can practice without giving up the world. The Yoga of Sound, an ancient and well tested discipline, can be that practice.” Russill Paul from: The Yoga of Sound
Yoga and Writing Inspired Breath (all levels – Mondays 10:00 am – 11:15 am)
Yoga and writing are soul mates, destined to come together for a spiritual purpose. Yoga offers fleeting insights; writing captures these epiphanies in concrete form. Yoga regulates the rhythm of the breath; writing rides this rhythm through the land of language. Yoga digs into unconscious mind; writing mines the unconscious for symbolic images. Writing creates pain; yoga grants relief. Writing is an offering to the world; yoga sweetens the sacrifice. Writing is lonely; yoga offers community. Combining simple yoga poses and timed writing exercises, this course is designed to kindle your creative fire, liberate your authentic voice and illuminate your deepest truth. It will benefit seasoned writers seeking renewal, as well as yogis with a budding desire to write.
